It occurred to me yesterday that I could ask one or more AI apps “What are the benefits of blogging for seniors?” Here’s what Copilot came up with:
“Blogging can be a fantastic activity for seniors. Here are some of the key benefits:
- Mental Stimulation: Writing regularly keeps the mind sharp and helps improve cognitive functions.
- Social Connection: It offers a platform to connect with others, share experiences, and build a community.
- Emotional Expression: Blogging can be a therapeutic way to express feelings and reflect on life experiences.
- Skill Development: Learning to navigate blogging platforms and improve writing skills can be very fulfilling.
- Legacy Creation: Sharing stories and wisdom can create a lasting legacy for family and friends.
- Hobby and Purpose: It provides a purposeful activity and can be a fun hobby to fill leisure time.”
Number 5 stuck out for me because I hadn’t thought of that specific benefit. I’d danced around it but now I see that legacy is important, for seniors on one side and for descendants on the other.
Next, I asked my daughters and their husbands for suggestions. My eldest daughter came up with this:
“Hmmmm let’s see..
-making connections with others (family, friends, new connections)
-reflecting on, and sharing experiences
-finding a community with similar interests/hobbies
-sharing expertise (gardening, sewing, DIY home repairs)”
Again, I’d missed one of those, that being sharing experience. Sharing really is caring, isn’t it? Every senior has tips and tricks, recipes and know-how in abundance. When you write about your own skills and share your experience, you’re helping someone. If you’re like me, helping is very rewarding, giving you a warm glow inside. That’s a true benefit that journaling will giveĀ you.
Two days till Christmas and that’s my output for today. Happy Holidays!
