Back to Basics – Computer basics, that is

I started this version of brianmahoney.ca to expand my thoughts on ‘writing as a hobby for seniors’. That was the topic of a seminar that I’m doing this month at Momiji, here in Toronto. Last week I got a request to help out with SIB, Seniors IT and Beyond. Since the writing seminar is quite far along, almost finished I think, my brain moved forward to IT topics. My old site, same name/different host, was all about tech, social media, etc. It is still around but the brianmahoney.ca domain is pointed here, not there. At some point this spring I’ll move the whole site over here and link to it. Some of the posts are out of date so I’ll go through and trim them but many of the posts are still valid.

First off is trying to figure out how to take questions from the residents and guests (people from the Momiji community). I think the best way is to start a generic ‘got a question?’ post that I’ll pin to the main page here. That way I can answer the queries publicly but keep the questioner’s name private. What do you think?  Taking private email requests for help on any of my email accounts wouldn’t protect anyone’s privacy. I don’t have to know their email addresses, just the question.

You’ll notice that I don’t have ads on this site. When I ask people to visit the site to get answers, I don’t get anything out of it other than the satisfaction that I get from helping someone. First, I don’t need the money and second, this site is set up purely to help people, not to anger them with ads.  If I mention someone or something here, it’s because I trust them. Even then, I won’t promote any business in a post, only non-profits.

Over and out for today. I’ll start on the pinned question page next. Wish me luck!

Cheers!
Brian Mahoney
