Does Your Day Have a Focus? – What is your goal every day?

To be honest, I was never a goal oriented person. These days however, I almost have more goals than I can handle. There is something to achieve every day, positive things that will help me and in the case of this blog and my volunteer work, help others.

What gets me out of bed every morning at 7? For starters it’s my exercise routine. Next comes any household chores I have to do. Today it’s laundry. In between loads I have time to log in here and describe what flashed into my mind almost as soon as I woke up: all about goals and the joy I feel when I achieve them.

After my morning walk, always about an hour but often longer, I have a coffee, watch a half hour of NHK World then ride at least 2.5 km on my stationary bicycle. In that time my brain floats around the question, ‘what will I write today’. NHK this morning was about a bench by Lake Biwa. Almost everyone who stopped by the bench seemed to have a goal. Some were on motorcycles, some on bicycles and many in cars or simply walking. The bench itself was a goal for some but for others, it was a stop on the way, perhaps to rest before they continued on to their real goal.

One fellow was biking around Lake Biwa, following the Biwaichi path. It’s about 200 km total. The interesting thing was that his was his 198th trip around the lake. His goal was 200 laps, totalling 40,000 km, the same as one lap around the Equator! That goal was almost within reach and I’m very sure he accomplished it.

So, all of this leads to the crux of this post. What’s your goal? What helps you climb out of bed every morning? Are your days getting boring? Is the thought of the years ahead doing the same thing troubling you? Grab a pen and a piece of paper. Start by describing something in your past, your present or a goal for the future. Once you do that for about a week, you’ll find that it’s not a challenge or a chore, it’s a goal.

How many words are there in your goal? What’s a good number of pages to fill? Once you start, you just may find that the goal is simply the writing, not the number of this or that. You will certainly feel refreshed, more alive and I am willing to bet that your brain will be more active. Memories will come floating out of nowhere to serve as more material for another day. Just make sure you write the bits and pieces of those memories so you don’t lose track of them again.

This is one of those times where people say, “Try it. You’ll like it.” You will. I know that but you have to try it first. Let me know how it’s going. If I can offer you tips, just ask.

  1. For all new WordPress users: This is a common spam technique that’s been around for many years. It may not be obvious to WordPress users who are just starting out. If you still want to post something like this, remove the links, change the name and remove the email address. By the way, there is no fault with your WP installation. This is only to get your attention.
    Example of Spam:

I don’t know if it’s just me or if perhaps everybody else experiencing problems with your website.

It appears like some of the written text in your posts are running off the screen. Can someone else please
comment and let me know if this is happening to
them too? This may be a problem with my browser because I’ve had this happen before.
    Thank you
