How to Save a Life – It’s easier than you think.

On one hand, I’m lucky to have O- blood running through my veins. O- is what’s known as the universal blood type because anyone, anywhere in the world can have a transfusion of O- blood. On the other hand, if I need a blood transfusion, only O- blood will keep me alive. It’s the old yin yang, right?

Knowing that my blood can be used in emergency wards, neonatal wards, etc. I donate every two months like clockwork. I used to go downtown but now there is a donation clinic within walking distance of my house. Easy peasy! Yes, much easier now. Last Monday was my 60th donation. I hope to make 75 before I stop, if I ever stop.

Save a life, donate blood. Please. If you need blood, where do you think it comes from? From people like me. Get out there, spend about 45 minutes of your time and donate. Check the rules and regulations concerning your health requirements and make an appointment. In Canada, we don’t get paid for donating. In some countries you do. Just an FYI.

If you have questions about donating, ask me in the comments at the bottom of the page.

Cheers!
