I’m Back! Ready to Rock and Roll

Hi folks! I had to take a break from writing for a week or so. A back molar started acting up with intense pain by times then none at others. On top of that I threw my back out somehow. Maybe it was caused by the stress of the pain from the tooth, I don’t know and I probably never will. My dentist set up an appointment with an endodontist. (For some reason that comes up as a spelling error. Hmm.) The endodontist took a look, decided the tooth needed a root canal and that is what he did yesterday.

The point of this post is to say that a root canal sounds scary, painful, probably something that sends shivers up your spine. But it’s not that way. I’ve had three over about 50 years. This last one was the easiest, mainly because the dental office was beautiful! Modern, very bright and not scary at all. The receptionist, Tracy, was wonderful. Happy, friendly and very helpful, she made the experience something to enjoy. Dr. Ng was great, too. He explained things to me, answered my questions and somehow managed to do all the necessary work in an hour and a half. Sure, that part was tough on me, but that was because my back hurt. Why on earth are dentist chairs so uncomfortable? There was no need for the already scheduled second appointment. Bonus!

With Canada’s new dental insurance, the pain of the payment wasn’t nearly what I expected. Sure, it was over $1,000 but when you add up all the equipment and time involved, as well as the cost of educating Dr. Ng, I didn’t think it was a ridiculous amount of money. Add in the fact that I’m in no pain today and you’ll see why my mood has changed for the better.

So, don’t worry about a root canal. The freezing is the scariest part but imagine what it would be like without that! I shudder to think of what people went through in the days before modern dentistry.

Stay tuned for more from me. I have some new ideas about blogging and some tips on tech, too.

Cheers!
