In 2023, my resolution was to walk at least 5 km per day. Believe it or not, that’s exactly what I did. Rain or shine, through snow and cold, I managed to keep my resolution. Have you ever made a resolution and kept to it? 2023 was the first time I’ve done it. I suppose I was fitter at the end but the big thing for me was the pride I felt when the year was over. I was chuffed, as they say in the England.
Most resolutions seem to be about health and weight issues but if you’re looking for something other than that, why not resolve to write about your life? Gauge it by time, as in once a day or once every two days, or by amount. “I’ll write 300 words a day”, something like that. That may not seem like a lot but after a year, you’ll have about 110,000 words completed. Most novels range from about 70,000 to 120,000 words. Well done! You’ve written your first novel!
Even if you commit to only 100 words average per day, I think you’d be quite proud of yourself this time next year. It might seem like a big step to take but once you get into it, writing will be easier every day. Remember not to drain the bottle, the bottle of memories, I mean. Save a bit for the next day. Memories beget memories, that’s from experience. As you write about one part of your life, others will show up, all trying to get your brain’s attention. Keep notes about these popups and tell them, “Wait till tomorrow.”
I’m still thinking about my resolution but I’ll let you know what it is before New Year’s Day.
Thanks for reading. Feel free to comment about this or any of my posts. It’s always good to hear from you.
Cheers!
